KURNOOL: Kotla Jayasuryaprakasa Reddy, MP, formally inaugurated the Kotla railway halt on the bank of Hundri river in the city on Saturday. The halt was named after his later father Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy. Three pairs of passenger trains will halt at the station initially. Divisional Railway Manager Raju Vaishnav, legislator M.A. Gafoor, Zilla Parishad chief Venkata Swamy, Mayor S. Raghurami Reddy and others were present. Mr. Suryaprakasa Reddy said the halt was a long-felt need of the residents of the city. It would provide easy access to commuters to the railway station and their homes. Also, students and petty vendors would benefit from the facility. He said the Railway Board was approached with a request for an inter-city express between Kurnool and Hyderabad. The Mayor underscored the need for changing the name of Kurnool town to Kurnool city at the main railway station. It would be an insult to the city, which was once the capital of Andhra State and was elevated to corporation more than a decade ago. Mr. Gafoor urged the railway authorities to introduce inter-city express between Kurnool and Hyderabad in the early hours. He called for better infrastructure at the new halt.
