Lawyers' appeal

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram-based Institute of Law and Research has urged the Government to enact a law to prevent the arrest and charging of criminal case against lawyers for technical lapses, which take place in the course of their work due to no fault of theirs.

In a memorandum submitted to Law Minister M. Vijayakumar here on Saturday, the institute said that the law should provide for obtaining the prior permission of bodies like the Bar Association or the Bar Council before proceeding against lawyers in such cases. R. Krishnappan Nair, president of the institute, said the Minister promised to consider the plea sympathetically. — Special Correspondent
