LYING VACANT: SIPCOT industrial estate at Perundurai where industrial associations in Erode are seeking space for operations at a subsidised price. File photo
ERODE: Three major employment providers in the region are looking for over 120 acres of land in and around Erode, but lack of suitable land and exorbitant land prices, jacked up "artificially'' by vested interests, have stymied their plans. The Eco Textile Processors Association, the Erode Hi-Tech Weaving Park and the Readymade Garments Exporters Association, want to establish industries. The Eco Textile authorities have requested the government to allot them at least 40 acres in the SIPCOT industrial estate at a subsidised rate. The ball is in the government's court now. The Hi-Tech Weaving Park wanted to buy 40 to 50 acres of land on Perundurai road but the land price is exorbitant there too. Now they have sought the Collector's help to get the land. The Erode Readymade Garments Exporters Association plans to start more than 100 readymade units in one place. The associations have requested the Collector to grant them a site in the SIPCOT industrial estate. Collector T. Udhaychandran said THADCO had constructed a building at a cost of Rs. 21 crore and it was lying vacant. Permission should be obtained from the Government and THADCO to use the building.
