ADILABAD: In-charge Collector A. Dinakar Babu on Saturday said Bt cottonseed will be disbursed in a decentralised manner in 11 mandals on June 4 and 6 in order to ward off any unsavoury incident involving farmers. Besides, police bandobast is also being organised at each of the mandal centre in view of the lathicharge last month-end when farmers protested against the supply of deficient seed. He warned blackmarketeers and hoarders of Bt cottonseed of criminal prosecution in case they were found to be indulging in the activity. At a press conference, Mr. Dinakar Babu and Joint Director of Agriculture C. Sayanna also warned officials of disciplinary proceedings in case they colluded with blackmarketeers of seed.
Cooperation urged
They urged farmers not to insist on a particular variety of Bt cottonseed. Instead, he suggested that the farmers should go in for a variety that was more suitable for their type of land. The officials said almost 42,000 packets of Bt cottonseed were available for distribution on the two days. Though this falls just short of the estimated demand, the administration will tide over the matter, they hoped. They urged farmers to cooperate with officials during the distribution of seed. On June 4 seeds will be disbursed in MPDO offices of Bela, Jainad, Tamsi, Talamadugu and Adilabad mandals. On June 6, disbursal will be taken up in Indervelli, Gudihatnoor, Ichoda, Neredigonda, Boath and Bazarhatnoor mandals.
