TAMBARAM: A 23-year-old youth was killed on the spot, when he was hit by an electric train near the Chromepet railway station on Friday evening. The victim was listening to a radio programme on his mobile phone and was not aware of the approaching train, police said. I. Johnson Isaan, of Vaattakkarai in Tuticorin district, was working as a salesman with a private mineral water company and was staying in a rented house in Chromepet. On Friday evening, he was returning to his house along with a group of friends when the accident took place. He was hit by a suburban electric train from Tambaram to Chennai Beach and died on the spot.
Hit by train
In another incident at Kattankulathur, a 65-year-old was killed after being hit by a train while crossing the track. Senthamaraipillai was crossing the track at 10.30 a.m., when the accident took place, police said.
Woman run over
A 74-year-old woman died on the spot after she was run over by a bus in Tambaram on Saturday evening. C.R. Saraswathy, of Raja Rajeswari Nagar, Perungalathur, had come to Tambaram for shopping. She was walking across Grand Southern Trunk Road at the pedestrian crossing at the intersection near Mudichur Road. A group of pedestrians had just crossed the road and waiting vehicles were about to move ahead, when she was hit by the bus, contracted by a private college. Tambaram traffic police are investigating.
