CHENNAI: Mayor M. Subramanian said on Saturday that about 35,000 people in the city have been screened during the Varummun Kappom (preventive health) camps held so far.

Inaugurating a medical camp at Raja Annamalaipuram, the Mayor said the Chennai Corporation had organised 15 such camps. The camps have helped identify 1,920 diabetes cases, 2,170 hypertension cases and 96 cervical cancer cases. About 340 persons have undergone cataract surgery.

Chennai Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni said the camps benefited people from low-income groups.
