13 chikungunya cases reported

KOCHI: Thirteen more cases of suspected chikungunya were reported from Kuttampuzha on Saturday, taking the number of cases in Ernakulam district this year to 140. Two cases of leptospirosis too were reported from Kolencherry Medical College. Field staff of the Health Department are investigating the cases. Some cases of hepatitis too were reported from some parts of the district. The health authorities cautioned the people to take protection against vector-borne diseases, by using mosquito nets and ensuring personal hygiene. — Staff Reporter

Workshop on visual communication

KOCHI : The obsession of people with portraying a sense of decency has resulted in the hike in number of criminals in Kerala, poet Sugathakumari has said. Inaugurating a workshop on `Visual communication,' organised here on Saturday by the Amritha School of Visual Media and Communications, she said the pseudo-decency of society resulted in it losing strength to react to critical issues. Thus, criminals could get away with anything. — Staff Reporter
