STEPS TO SUCCESS: Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Sunil Lanba reviewing the passing-out parade of the 73rd Integrated Cadets Course on board INS Tir on Saturday.
KOCHI : The passing-out parade of the 73rd Integrated Cadets Course, held on board INS Tir, was reviewed by Rear Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command. As many as 93 cadets, including a Mauritian officer cadet, completed their basic training on board the First Training Squadron comprising Naval ships Tir, Sujata and Tarangini. During the 24 weeks of strenuous sea training, the cadets were exposed to various facets of seafaring and survival training. The cadets had an opportunity for overseas deployment, wherein the ships of the squadron sailed to Jeddah, Massawa and Muscat. The cadets had extensive sailing experience onboard sail training ship Tarangini during the ongoing Lokayan 07. Besides familiarising themselves with Indian ports on the East and West coast, the cadets had the opportunity to visit various ports abroad and interacting with people from various walks of life. At the passing out parade, Cadet Ashok Garg received the coveted Chief of the Naval Staff trophy and `Binoculars' for standing first in overall order of merit. Cadet Jayaram Nair received the `Telescope' for the best all-round cadet and Cadet Anil Rathee was awarded the FOC-in-C East rolling trophy for the most promising cadet. The cadets will now join frontline warships of Western and Eastern fleets as midshipmen, for the next six months. Senior Naval officers and parents of the cadets witnessed the parade. At the stripe-shipping ceremony, the parents and close relatives who arrived in Kochi had the proud privilege of shipping the midshipmen epaulettes and Sub Lieutenant stripes on their valiant sons, who pledged to devote their lives in the service of the nation.
