HYDERABAD: Police have identified more than 20 points on different road stretches in the twin cities, prone to water-logging whenever it rains, bringing vehicular traffic to a grinding halt.
In view of the ensuing rainy season, police have asked the Municipal Corporation and the Water Board to initiate measures to check stagnation of rainwater. Vehicular traffic comes to standstill for hours during every monsoon season as rainwater stagnates on the roads and it's the traffic police who are at the receiving end for the havoc.
At Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet, traffic movement went haywire for almost five hours last year when a storm water drain on the main road got clogged. "An act of God cannot be prevented, but this time the level of preparedness is at its peak from our side," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Kripanand Tripathi Ujela said on Saturday.
Some of the water-logging spots are Dharam Karam Road in Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar, Image Hospital and Maitrivanam at Ameerpet, Sagar Society and Lotus Pond in Banjara Hills, Satya Sai Nigamagam in Srinagar Colony, Karbala Maidan in Ranigunj, M.G. Road, Park Lane and CTO bus stop in Secunderabad, Model House in Punjagutta, Visveswaraiah statute in Khairatabad, Raj Bhavan Road and Monappa Island in Somajiguda.
