Dharmana's `padayatra' to begin on June 15

  • YSR will release water near Amadalavalasa
  • The system will provide irrigation to 82,000 acres

Srikakulam: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will arrive in the district on June 14 to formally release water into the Right Main Canal of the Vamsadhara project.

Dr. Reddy will release water at the 36 km of the RMC near Amadalavalasa.

Originally, water was proposed to be released by Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao on June 7, but it was postponed by a week to enable the Chief Minister to participate in the programme.Accordingly the proposed three-day padayatra by the Revenue Minister, to mark the occasion, would begin on June15. Release of water will enable farmers in the Amadalavalasa, Gara and Srikakulam (rural) mandals to get assured water for about 20,000 acres.

Already RMC has been covering an ayacut of 42,000 acres.

The system as a whole would provide irrigation water to about 82,000 acres.

The remaining 20,000 will be covered in the second stage of the project.
