More cash assistance to Delhi "tirth yatris"

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Cabinet has enhanced the cash assistance to Kailash Mansarovar "tirth yatris' who hail from Delhi from Rs.10, 000 per person at present to Rs.25, 000 to meet the cost of arrangements for the "yatra".

The Delhi Government would now incur an additional expenditure of Rs. 12 lakh per year on this head.

The Government has been providing assistance to Kailash Mansarovar "yatris" in the form of cash assistance, cost of lodging and food and taking care of their medical examination.

Tribute paid to

mystic poet

NEW DELHI: A large number of people assembled at Kirpal Bagh here this past Wednesday to observe the 18th Barsi Bhandara of mystic poet Sant Darshan Singhji Maharaj, the founder of Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission. Followers paid rich tribute to the poet and recited verses from his poetry.

The Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission serves as a forum where people from different religions can come together to learn the practical side of spirituality. The Mission also conducts welfare activities including distributing medicines, fruits and vegetables to cancer patients at Shanti Avedana Sadan in Raj Nagar.

Sehwag interacts with students

NEW DELHI: Cricketer Virender Sehwag visited Jamia Millia Islamia this past Friday to interact with the staff and students and encourage interest in sports among young people. He visited the University Sports Grounds at the invitation of the Director of Physical Education Noor Mohammad.

The University has been running summer training camps for cricket, basketball, football and volleyball for Jamia students and children from the neighbourhood. The coaching camp is an annual one-month-long event from May 15 to June 15.

Hooda apprised of Yamuna project

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation made a presentation on the Yamuna Revitalisation Project to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda here this past Friday. The DTTDC Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Sanat Kaul, apprised the Haryana Chief Minister of the project and said it would help in addressing the problems of water shortage in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and enhance tourism potential for Delhi and Haryana.
