BANGALORE: Despite the Government downplaying the numbers of those seeking revaluation of second pre-university answer scripts, over 14,000 candidates have applied for photocopies, 8,000 for revaluation and 600 for re-totalling. Among those who received their photocopies was Sadiq Ameenuddin of the Government Boys' PU College. He was shocked to see that most of his answers were not even marked. He has now applied for revaluation. For no fault of his, he had to pay Rs. 300 for the photocopies and Rs. 750 for revaluation as prescribed by the department. "I secured around 80 per cent in my SSLC examination. I was expecting a good result but found that I had not cleared one subject. This, even though I secured full marks in most of the internal examinations," Sadiq narrated his ordeal to The Hindu. But throwing light on the evaluation procedure, an evaluator said that the prescribed procedure had been followed and there was no scope for any foul play. "The corrected papers undergo crosschecking. The process is almost fool-proof," he reasoned. Dissatisfied with the marks they obtained, several students had demonstrated in front of the department before eventually standing in line for re-totalling, revaluation and photocopies of their answer scripts. Refuting allegations that moneymaking was the motive, PU Education Commissioner S.G. Hegde said: "The Government is an impersonal body and has no motives of moneymaking."
