This Day That Age
The National Development Council has agreed in principle to the fixing of a minimum price for foodgrains with a view to giving an incentive to the farmer for increased production. The Council, which began its two-day session in New Delhi on June 3 with Prime Minister Nehru in the chair, left the details of the proposal to be worked out by officials of the Planning Commission, the Union Food and Agriculture Ministry and the other Ministries concerned, in consultation with the representatives of the States attending the session. Among the points to be worked out in regard to the minimum price are whether it should be fixed on a national or regional basis and whether it should be fixed from year to year or on a more permanent basis.
