Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has said that Gilgit Baltistan is part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and it should be given its due constitutional and political rights. Talking to The Hindu , Amanullah Khan, chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front said, "my party in its resolution has rejected division of the State on religious, cultural or any other basis. We also demand that the people of Gilgit Baltistan be given their due constitutional and political rights and be allowed to have a democratic government." According to Mr. Khan, the party has also taken a stand that like the state of Jammu and Kashmir the constitutional status of Gilgit Baltistan better known as the Northern Areas was yet to be determined and therefore Gilgit Baltistan areas are an integral part of the divided Jammu Kashmir State and not of Pakistan. Pakistan's envoy to Belgium had recently stated that the Northern Areas have never been part of Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Khan said that his party has rejected the proposals put forward by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf to solve the Kashmir issue contending that they would result in division of Jammu and Kashmir and permanent enslavement of its people.
Lauds EU report
Mr. Khan said the party appreciated the Nicholson Report of the European Parliament for pinpointing the constitutional, political and legal injustices that the people of Pakistan occupied Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan were being subjected to.
