Corrections and Clarifications

  • A sentence in "Army columns clear roadblocks put up by Gujjars" (June 2, 2007) was: "Those travelling between Agra and Jaipur have to go via Agra, spending at least six hours more in the sweltering heat." It should have been "Those travelling between Agra and Jaipur have to go via Alwar ... ."

  • A standalone graphic "Global Peace Index" ("International" page, June 2, 2007) led to queries on India's ranking — it was not listed. India's ranking is 109 out of a total of 121 countries. (The study by the Economist Intelligence Unit used 24 indicators, including military spending, arms sales, corruption, human rights, prison populations and incidence of crime.)

  • The heading of a report (June 4, 2007) was: "[Karnataka Chief Minister H.D.] Kumaraswamy hints at leaving office before his term". It should have been "... before the end of his term".

  • In a report "Strive to make Tamil an official language, [Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.] Karunanidhi tells youth" (June 4, 2007), the blurb and a sentence in the text stated that Mr. Karunanidhi, in his birthday message, said that his long-felt dream and that of his party was to link rivers in the country to promote national integrity. It should have been national integration.

  • In a report "`My head is a boom box!'" ("Information Technology" page, June 3, 2007), the price of the Bose in-ear phone was incorrectly mentioned as Rs. 50,000. It is priced at Rs. 5,000.
