Decision on counselling for management quota seats soon

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The State Government will take a decision in the next couple of days on merit-based single window counselling for management quota seats in private engineering institutions.

"We are committed to ensuring that the system is implemented and the law is very clear on this.

"We have also advised the institutions to comply with the government directive. However, we will examine their representation and take a decision," a Higher Education official told The Hindu .

"No compliance"

On Sunday, the Consortium of Self-Financing Professional, Arts and Science Colleges in Tamil Nadu said it would not comply with the government's recent order to admit students on merit-based single window counselling for management seats. Government officials received a letter written by the consortium on Monday.

Lack of infrastructure

Representatives of the consortium said private institutions did not have the infrastructure or facilities to conduct the single window counselling.

The consortium would, however, stick to the agreement entered into with the Government last year, under which 65 per cent of seats in non-minority engineering colleges and 50 per cent of seats in minority engineering colleges would be available for Anna University's single window counselling.
