Krishna Kishore shines

VIJAYAWADA: Vizag defeated Nellore 1-0 in the 25th Andhra State junior inter-district hockey tournament at Makineni Basavapunnaiah Stadium here on Monday. After a barren first half, Vizag's Krishna Kishore scored the all-important goal in the 54th minute to enable his team to emerge victorious.

In the other matches, host Krishna defeated Guntur by 2-0 with Jagadish Babu and Firdoz scoring for Krishna. Ghalib's brace in the first half helped West Godavari post a convincing victory over Chittoor. The match between East Godavari and Kadapa was moved to Tuesday due to bad light.

The scores: Vizag 1 (Krishna Kishore) bt Nellore 0; Krishna 2 (Jagadish Babu, Firdoz) bt Guntur 0; West Godavari 2 (Ghalib) bt Chittoor 0; East Godavari (0) vs. Kadapa (called off due to bad light). — Sports Reporter
