Judicial probe sought

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Progressive Women's Organisation (POW) has sought a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the recent `encounter' killings of two CPI-ML (New Democracy) activists in Khammam district.

G. Jhansi, general secretary and Chandra Aruna, secretary, accompanied by local POW leaders visited Golletiwada village where the encounter took place on a fact-finding mission on June 2. - Special Correspondent

Tata Indicom offer

HYDERABAD: Tata Teleservices Ltd on Monday launched `I-award', a loyalty programme for Tata Indicom pre-paid customers.

Under this loyalty programme, a prepaid customer can win free talk time, increased validity and free SMS on earning certain points. The customer can earn points, each time on recharging for Rs. 50 onwards, by staying in `active' State and through the total recharge value in a month. - Special Correspondent

UN award for project

HYDERABAD: The e-Procurement Project being implemented by the State Government has bagged the United Nations Public Service Award for the current year.

The UN award is presented in the category of improvement of transparency, accountability and responsiveness in public domain. Suresh Chanda, Secretary, IT and Communications, will receive the award on behalf of the State Government at Vienna in Austria between June 26 and 29. - Special Correspondent

TDP activist killed

ANANTAPUR: A TDP activist and a ward member of Marthadu village in Garladinne mandal, Nallappa (33), was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified persons on Monday. According to the police, the reasons behind the murder were not known. In another incident at Nallacheruvu, Shankara (42), a poultry farm owner, was murdered on Monday morning. The police said his throat was slit. He was from Pedda Yellampalli. - Staff Reporter
