BHUBANESWAR: Kidnapping of a trader belonging to Keonjhar town took a tragic turn on Monday when the body found near Ranchi in neighbouring Jharkhand was identified to be of the driver of the abducted businessman. The bullet-ridden body of the driver, Naba Kishore Mohanta, was found on May 29 but was lying unidentified. However, the car of the businessman, Rasmiranjan Mohapatra, was found abandoned near Dhanbad Railway station recently. Abductors of the trader had demanded Rs.2 crores from his family members. Sources said the abductors had agreed on Rs. 40 lakhs to Rs. 50 lakhs due to persistence of victim's family.
Another body found
Though another body was found in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, it was mutilated, the Bhubaneswar police sources said. "We have sent three-member team to Jharkhand to inquire about the kidnap link. The family members of Mohapatra have also gone to Ranchi to help identifying the body," Khurda Superintendent of Police Amitabh Thakur said. Family sources said the last phone call from abductors was received a day before Sunday but both the parties could not reach on any definite ransom figure. Abducted trader's brother Pradip Barik lodged a complaint with the Sahidnagar police after he received a ransom call of Rs. 2 crores. A police official claimed that the trader was not abducted from Bhubaneswar but from Chhatia.
