Infrastructure of small industries to be upgraded

Staff Reporter

Land notified to set up industrial estates

  • Government to create infrastructure upgradation fund
  • KSSIDC to launch its ambitious scheme soon

BANGALORE: Although land acquisition is a sensitive issue, people should understand the importance of acquiring land for development purposes and cooperate with the Government, Managing Director of Karnataka Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (KSSIDC) Azeezulla Baig has said.

Participating in an interactive meeting with the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) here on Monday, he said that despite problems, the Government had been making efforts to develop the infrastructure of small-scale industries across the State.

Explaining the development activities in all the 155 industrial estates established in the past 15 years, Mr. Baig said that the KSSIDC would launch its ambitious scheme of one-time upgradation of infrastructure of the existing small industries shortly. Even the industrial estates that had been handed over to local bodies would be covered under the scheme for once, he added.

The Government was planning to create an infrastructure upgradation fund of Rs. 500 crore.

However, it had already released Rs. 100 crore for the industrial development purposes. The KSSIDC would undertake infrastructure upgradation works of small industries in the backward area with a focus on north Karnataka.

    Notification

Mr. Baig said the Government had already notified some land near Magadi and elsewhere to set up industrial estates. The process had been delayed owing to legal hurdles. However, the acquisition of land was not the responsibility of the KSSIDC, he clarified.

President of FKCCI R. C. Purohit said that the FKCCI was eagerly awaiting implementation of the proposed small industries cluster covering in 25 small industrial areas the State.
