Follow-up care

The greening initiative launched by the Forest and Education Departments by enlisting school children will achieve desired results only if there is follow-up care for the planted saplings, nature lovers pointed out.

School children across Kerala are expected to plant more than 25 lakh saplings as part of the Government sponsored "Ente Maram" scheme.

Several varieties of trees such as Anjali, teak, jackfruit, Kambakam, Asokam, tamarind, Kudum Puli, Neem, Venga, mahagony, Nelli, Ilanji, Kumbil, Mandaram, Spathodia, Chamada, Koovalam and Jacaranta will be planted in Kerala in the coming days.

The initiative is to combat global warming and make Kerala greener.

The Forest Department officials said they would ensure that the saplings are properly tended.
