Medha Patkar confesses to having committed an `eco-crime'

Narmado Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar was all praise for Kerala and the people at the function organised to kick off the `Ente Maram' programme in the capital. "The country owes a lot to Kerala and the Malayalis. My soul is here. If ever I retire, I will be back to Kerala," she said while addressing the students.

The environmentalist said she had committed an `eco-crime' by flying down to the capital to attend the function.

"I must admit it to you," she said. Ms. Patkar said instead of going after cars, the public transport system need to be improved to cater to the needs of the citizens.

Instead of going after palatial buildings and bungalows, the people should go for simple houses modelled by the late Laurie Baker.
