Thiruvananthapuram: A magic show by teenage magician Abhinraj was the highlight of the Environment Day celebrations at the Magic Academy here on Tuesday. Abhinraj's show focussed on the love for nature and conservation of the environment. The magician distributed envelopes to students from Kendriya Vidyalaya who had gathered there to attend the ongoing magic camp. Each envelope carried one alphabet of the word `pollution.' Abhinraj then inserted stainless steel spoons into the envelopes. Each student was asked to think about an environmental pollution. After a few seconds, when the spoons were taken out, they were all bent and twisted. "Environmental degradation turns our life into a shapeless state like this," the magician announced before the audience. Abhinraj then broke a red woollen thread and rejoined it to demonstrate how human initiatives could revive a degraded environment. To show how the Earth gets polluted by non-degradable plastic waste, he performed another trick by which a small piece of red silk vanished inside a bigger green one. A disciple of Gopinath Muthukad, Abhinraj was the first prize winner in the State-level eco-magic competitions held last year under the auspices of the Magic Academy and the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment. Magician Manu Poojappura also addressed the audience.
