HONOURING A LEADER: Union Minister for IT and Communications A. Raja addressing DMK party cadres at the 84th birthday celebrations of DMK president M. Karunanidhi in Puducherry on Monday.
Puducherry: Union Information Technology and Communications Minister A. Raja said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had distinguished himself in providing good governance and in championing the cause of the poor. Addressing a public meeting organised by the youth wing of the Puducherry State unit of the DMK to celebrate Mr. Karunanidhi's completion of 50 years as legislator and his 84th birthday here on Monday, Mr. Raja said the leader had scaled greater heights in literary, administrative and political fields. Mr. Karunanidhi, adhering to the basic tenets of secularism and socialism took social welfare measures during his long career. "Unchallenged leader" His political acumen had earned him encomiums from great stalwarts and his being a member of the Assembly for 50 years showed that Mr. Karunanidhi was an unchallenged leader. Tamil Nadu Ministers K. Ponmudy, A.V. Velu and M.R.K. Panneerselvam spoke. Puducherry youth wing president R. Siva presided. Puducherry DMK unit convener and former Chief Minister R.V. Janakiraman, former Education Minister S. P. Sivakumar and chairman of Villianoor Commune panchayat K. Natarajan also spoke. Presidium leader of the party P. Subbarayan and former Member of Parliament C .P. Tirunavukkarasu were present.
