KOCHI: Brushing away the cobwebs of mid-match doubt and confusion, Madhya Pradesh's Shreyanshi Pardesi outwitted Veldruti Harika of Andhra Pradesh and won the under-10 girls' title in the seventh Indian Oil Servo all-India junior ranking badminton tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium here on Tuesday. The nine-year-old Shreyanshi, a fourth standard student of Indore's Humpty Dumpty School, was down 7-11 in the decider when she suddenly changed tactics. Mixing her rallies, she pushed her taller opponent to the backcourt with high lobs and then suddenly pulled her in with a naughty drop. Clearly uncomfortable, Veldruti gave in. Meanwhile, local lad Arun George, son of former international George Thomas and a fierce fighter like his dad, bounced back brilliantly after losing the first set and defeated Santhosh Rauri in the under-13 semifinal that twice spilled into extra points. The results: Boys, under-19 singles semifinals: Saurabh Verma (MP) bt Oscar Bansal (Chg) 21-13, 21-18; R.M.V. Gurusai Dutt (AP) bt Aditya Elango (AI) 21-6, 21-9.
