Aaron D'Souza hogs the limelight

BANGALORE: It was Aaron D'Souza's day out at the PMSC pool here on Tuesday. The BAC swimmer came up with a sterling show which saw him break meet marks and better National junior records in two races on the second day of the State junior and sub-junior aquatics championship.

Aaron clipped the existing mark of 8:51.05 secs in the 800 metre freestyle, with 8:44.04, which also bettered the junior National record of 8:44.76s set by Rohit Hawaldar last year.

Later in the afternoon, Aaron came back for more and set a blistering 2:08.50 for a new meet record in the 200m individual medley. The surge saw him lower the 12- year-old State record of 2:11.89s set by Jayathirth Abhijith in 1995 and the National junior mark of 2:09.89 held by Arjun Muralidharan since 2004.

Other records

New meet records by N.A. Sandeep (100m freestyle and 50m backstroke in boys' group I), Madhavi Giri (800 m freestyle in girls' group I), Pooja R. Alva (200 m butterfly in group I), Sreelakshmi Gorur (1500m freestyle in group II) were the other highlights of the day.
