`Vijaykumar yet to assume charge'

Special Correspondent

  • Vijaykumar's bid to enter factory premises termed illegal

BANGALORE: Senior IAS officer M.N. Vijaykumar, who has been posted as Managing Director of State-owned Mysore Lamp Works Ltd., has not yet assumed charge, said a top government official. Despite this he had tried to enter the factory premises with former employees in an unauthorised manner. This was "abnormal behaviour", the official said.

The Industries Department has been directed to seek an explanation from Mr. Vijaykumar for his actions and for the allegations made by him against other officials. Mr. Vijaykumar has not yet signed the transfer of charge papers. Therefore, the earlier Managing Director, A.K. Somanna, who is also the Additional Director for Industries, still holds charge.

Chief Secretary P.B. Mahishi told presspersons that Mr. Vijaykumar had held only one post (Bangalore Regional Commissioner) in the past six months and had turned down all postings, including Regional Commissioner of Gulbarga, during that time. He had not filled the seven Charge Transfer Certificate forms to take charge as Managing Director of Mysore Lamp Works Ltd., Mr. Mahishi said.

"The Government moves slowly, but it will surely take action against the IAS officer. We cannot take action in a hurry," he said. Asked about charges made against him by Mr. Vijaykumar, the Chief Secretary said, "Let him prove the charges against me; I have no objections."

Mr. Vijaykumar on Monday told presspersons that a complaint had been registered with the Yeshwantpur police against the Chief Secretary for obstructing him from discharging his functions as the Managing Director.
