Thiruvananthapuram: Participants in a seminar jointly organised by the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad and the Jana Sikshan Sansathan here on Tuesday in connection with the World Environment Day said the environmental impact of global warming would pose a threat to the farm sector in Kerala in the near future. Delivering a lecture on `Agriculture and Global Warming,' Subramania Iyer said desertification was looming large over parched areas like Chittoor taluk in Palakkad and many places in Thrissur district. He stressed the need for a coordinated action plan to tackle the environmental problems posed by global warming. C.P. Aravindakshan inaugurated the seminar on `Biodiversity and protection of the environment.' V. Rajendran and V. Harilal spoke. A CD titled `Bhoomiyude Nilavili' on the environmental impact of reclaiming paddy fields and plundering hills for soil was also released on the occasion.
