Sensex up 39 points


MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange closed with modest gains on Tuesday after a volatile trading session marked by both positive and negative movements, while banking and technology blue-chips as well as some mid-cap stocks managed to corner significant gains. The Sensex ended at 14535.01, a gain of 39.24 points over Monday's close of 14495.77. Significant buying was seen in the IT and banking sector stocks, while FMCG companies saw investors selling off their holdings. Mixed trends were seen in auto, metal and pharma sectors.

SBI, Reliance Energy, Bajaj Auto, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Ranbaxy and HDFC were among the major gainers. — PTI
