KOLLAM: The 14 chikungunya cases confirmed in the district are from the blood samples sent from the Punalur Government Hospital and the Pattazhi Primary Health Centre. Fifty-four blood samples were sent from the district for examination. Out of that, the results of thirty-four samples were received on Tuesday. The remaining results were expected on Wednesday. Meanwhile, 897 cases of viral fever were reported from Government hospitals alone in the district by Tuesday evening. Out of this, 232 cases were from Pathanapuram and 203 cases from Punalur. The figure at private hospitals was not available.
High vector density
Vector density was found to be high at Kulathupuzha, Yeroor and Thenmala areas of the district. In the wake of this development, District Medical Officer Elizabeth John Zacharia gave strict instructions for immediate vector surveillance and source reduction.
