KOTTAYAM: Even as the authorities continued with efforts to contain the spread of fever, the district reported 6,154 new cases on Tuesday. Kanjirappally and Mundakkayam continued to top the list and accounted for more than 2,600 of these cases. The number of cases reported from the low-lying areas of Vaikom has been hovering around 600 for the past few days. The number of fever cases reported since June 1 stands at 14,722 in the district, the authorities said. Meanwhile, 25 blood samples collected from patients complaining of fever and joint pain were collected and sent for further examination, the authorities said. The authorities reiterated that all Government hospitals had necessary stocks of medicines. The respective local body president would be in charge of ensuring the availability of medicines in the Government hospitals in his/her area. The local bodies were entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating various youth organisations to take up cleaning operations centred round rubber plantations and pineapple orchards.
