New Safdarjung MS assumes charge

NEW DELHI: Dr. Jagdish Prasad took over as Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital here on Tuesday. This is his second stint as Medical Superintendent of the hospital. "Safdarjung Hospital is not only one of the biggest Central Government institutions but it also has a proud history. It will be our endeavour to take the institution to greater heights of glory by providing quality treatment to every patient,'' said Dr. Prasad in a statement.

Phone services hit

by cable theft

NEW DELHI: A major cable theft has affected telephone services to over 1,500 landline subscribers of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited in East Delhi. According to an MTNL official, four pairs of underground cables were stolen between Chitra Vihar and Laxmi Nagar late on Monday night. As a result, phones in Radhey Shyam Park, Govindpura, Som Bazar, Anarkali, Rajgarh Colony, Old Seelampur and Geeta Colony have been affected. Restoration work has started and services are likely to be restored by Thursday.

Painting contest

for children

NEW DELHI: On the occasion of World Environment Day on Tuesday, Jamia Eco-Club at Jamia Millia Islamia organised a painting competition for children. A number of children aged between four and 12 years from different South Delhi schools took part in the contest. The programme began with plantation of saplings by chief guest Zubair Meenai, Dean of Students' Welfare. Each participant received a certificate, while winners from each group were presented trophies.

"Market intelligence cell of no use"

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday said the initiative of setting up a Market Intelligence and Forecasting Cell taken up by the Delhi Government to curb price rise would not achieve the intended target. Mere collection of data by the Cell would not help in checking price rise, he said: "Rather, both the Central and State Government should utilise the mechanisms already in place to check price rise."

Veda workshop

NEW DELHI: A three-day "Veda Study" workshop organised at Rajouri Garden here ended on Monday. The objective was to provide easy understanding of Vedic studies to the common man. Organised by Veda Sansthan, it was attended by several university teachers.
