Srikakulam: Serious concern was expressed by majority of members at the large scale encroachments of tanks which have the potential to irrigate thousands of acres of lands as also over the indifference of official concerned to take repairs to irrigation sources with large ayacut, at the general body meeting of the Zilla Parishad held in the conference hall here on Tuesday. ZP chairman, Palavalasa Rajasekhar was in the chair. Specific cases were brought to the notice of the officials concerned. M.Ganapathi, MPP, pointed out that permanent repairs had not been taken up for the Pydigam irrigation project with an ayacut of 6000. Silt had also not been removed for a long time. He wanted immediate steps for clearance of silt so that the full ayacut would get water. K Mohna Rao, MLA, said unless immediate measures were initiated to take up permanent repairs to the breach to Vamsadhara embankment at Vasapa, 30 villages would suffer again. Inter State communication between Andhra Pradesh and Orissa would also be cut off, he said.
