Engineers are complaining of poor progress of tank works, says Collector

KADAPA: Progress of Andhra Pradesh Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (APREGS) works is very poor in Rayachoti and Lakkireddipalle constituencies, Simhadripuram, Pullampet and Siddhavatam mandal, district Collector M.T. Krishna Babu said on Tuesday.

Reviewing progress of works with programme officers here, he asked them to reside in places of posting and monitor works, failing which they will be removed and new incumbents appointed, he said.

The Collector urged field assistants not to yield to political pressures and asked programme officers to discipline them. Lamenting that officials are failing to provide work to at least 500 workers every day, he warned of stern action if they did not improve their performance.

Progress of works is satisfactory in 20 mandals and work is provided to 1,000 persons in each mandal by spending Rs. 30 lakhs, Mr. Krishna Babu said. He advised officials to extensively tour villages and provide work to at least 1,000 persons in each mandal every day.

Engineers are complaining of poor progress of tank works under Indiramma Cheruvulu scheme, he said.

He called for priority to land development and added that targets will be fixed to tahsildars. As National Horticulture Mission is tied up with APREGS, farmers will be paid wages for working in their own fields for three years, the Collector said.

`Prepare plans'

Earlier, DWMA project director M. Girijasankar wanted APREGS works executed in a foolproof manner. He wanted plans prepared for works and identifying beneficiaries. He told programme officers to provide 100 days of work to labourers and pay their bills promptly.

Biodiesel plantations will be taken up in 70,000 acres in 15 mandals this year, he said and sought priority to Rayachoti and Lakkireddipalle constituencies.

Assistant Director of Horticulture D. Madhusudan Reddy and other officials participated.
