Scrap Mehra panel: Mala leader

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Mala Mahanadu breakaway group leader Karem Sivaji has demanded that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy take the initiative to scrap Justice Usha Mehra Commission as "he is responsible for its constitution."

It was at the behest of the Chief Minister, who was accompanied by MRPS leader Manda Krishna, that the Centre had constituted the Commission.

'Convince Manmohan'

Dr. Reddy should convince Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, as otherwise the Congress would face the wrath of the Mala community.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Sivaji described the five-day-long fast by Mala Mahanadu president J. Prabhakara Rao as "high drama" enacted by the Congress to divert Mala community's attention from the moves initiated for categorisation of Scheduled Castes.

"If it is a genuine fast, why did the Government not use police to stop Mr. Prabhakara Rao as it did in my case?" he questioned. He said Malas would organise protests in all the districts from June 15 and lay siege to the houses of leaders of political parties supporting categorisation.

The Mala Mahanadu was also exploring legal options to see that Usha Mehra Commission was scrapped.
