Six held in gangrape case

GUNTUR: Six persons were arrested on Tuesday from Vijayawada and Guntur districts for alleged gangrape of an 18-year-old resident of Yerrabalem in Mangalagiri mandal.

All the accused, including two women, were produced before the Munsif Magistrate late last night, who remanded them to judicial custody for two weeks. The Mangalagiri police on Tuesday said that on May 19, S. Durga of Yerrabalem, a friend of the victim, took her to Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada on the pretext that she would find an employment for her.

In Vijayawada she sold the girl for Rs.2,000 to one Seethamahalakshmi, who handed over the girl to five persons. The victim's father, on Monday went to Vijayawada to find out where his daughter was employed. Not finding her at the address given by Durga, he lodged a complaint with the Mangalagiri police.

The police immediately arrested all the accused - Durga, Seetha, Koganti Sreenu, S. Venkateswara Rao, Mogili Bhrahmam, after interrogating Durga and produced them in the court.
