MRPL to fund laser therapy unit

MANGALORE: Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) have come forward to donate a Rs. 20 lakh worth laser therapy unit to Government Wenlock Hospital here.

J.Prabhudev, District Surgeon and Superintendent at the hospital, told The Hindu that the equipment was essential to treat diabetic retinopathy. Victims of this disease initially suffer from a detachment of the retina from the eyes that invariably causes loss of full or partial sight.

Hitherto, patients diagnosed with diabetic therapy in Government Wenlock Hospital had to be redirected to private hospitals for treatment. The disease calls for frequent and regular checks.
