HYDERABAD: The CPI(M) State Committee has urged the Government to conduct an "enjoyment survey" to ascertain the extent of tribal lands in possession of others and ensure their distribution among genuine tribals. The party wanted the Government to order a `settlement survey' to resolve the disputes between Revenue and Forest departments over the extent of land under their purview as it will pave way for freeing 25 lakh acres of lands for distribution among tribals. The CPI(M) will launch a campaign from June 9 that will culminate in demonstrations in front of mandal revenue offices on June 13 in support of the demand for solving tribals' problems. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, party secretary B.V. Raghavulu said the guidelines for implementation of the Tribal Forest Rights Act were yet to be released. The Act should be effectively implemented since it would benefit over 3.5 lakh tribal families while scrapping more than 85,000 cases of land occupation registered against tribals. Replying to queries, he challenged the Congress Legislature Party to prove its claims that the CPI(M)'s land occupation movement claimed two lives in Krishna district.
