`Land stir smacks of sinister agenda'
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
Criticising CPI(M) leaders for taking law and order into their hands in the name of land occupation, Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy on Tuesday said he suspected a "political agenda" behind its land struggle. Mr. Raghvuveera Reddy, accompanied by Transport Minister Kanna Laxminarayana, handed over cheques of Rs. 1 lakh each to Dhanalakshmi and Venkayamma, residents of Mylavaram mandal of Krishna district, whose husbands reportedly committed suicide following occupation of their land by CPI(M) activists.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said the Government was taking steps to fulfil the aspirations of people. Programmes like Indira Kranthi Padham, land distribution, subsidy on seed and fertiliser, Arogya Sri, etc., were aimed at fulfilling the pre-poll promises made by the Congress.
