`There is no accountability in the civic body'

Bangalore: In response to the Public Eye feature on indiscriminate land use changes, T.R. Rangachar of R.T. Nagar says the authorities ignore the rights of people though some citizens try to assert them. Authorities yield to muscle, money and political power. As a result the quality of life is deteriorating. Innumerable representations he gave had cut no ice with them. "I had to go to judiciary to get an industrial unit removed from my area. Three departments of the BBMP responsible for it passed the buck and there was no accountability, leading to a state of chaos. A single window system may restore the past glory of garden city," he said.

The residents of MGK Layout said in a joint letter: "We are struggling for the past many years to remove a commercial unit from the locality without success. On the other hand the business is extending to other premises in the area."
