Security guards arrested on charge of rape

BANGALORE: Two men allegedly raped a 30-year-old woman on the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus on Monday night.

The police said that around 7.30 p.m. the two men dragged the woman, a sweeper at the health centre of the IISc, to the terrace of the building and allegedly raped her. On a complaint by the victim, the Sadashivanagar police have arrested the accused, K. Prakash (28) and K.R. Prakash (26). The two work as security guards-cum-ambulance drivers at the health centre, the police said.

Murdered

Ramesh (30) was stabbed to death at his house at Nagadevanahalli, off Kengeri, on the outskirts of the city on Monday.

The police suspect that following a financial dispute Raghu and Jaggu could have murdered Ramesh. Ramesh had reportedly failed to repay Rs. 18,000 he had borrowed from the duo. On a complaint by Ramesh's wife, Manjula, the Bidadi police have registered a case.

Killed in accidents

Shantharaju (28), an autorickshaw driver, was killed on the spot after a lorry rammed his vehicle near the cable-stayed bridge in K.R. Puram around 10 p.m. on Monday. The K.R. Puram traffic police have registered a case. In another incident, Moogappa (58), a pedestrian, was killed after a multi-utility vehicle knocked him down on Mysore Road around 8 p.m. on Monday.

Suicides

Sunitha (19), a B.Com. student of V.V. Puram College, committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) quarters in Madivala on Monday night.

The police said Sunitha, daughter of KSRP head constable Javare Gowda, had taken the extreme step as she had not done well in her third semester examination. The Madivala police have registered a case.In another incident, Shahin Taj (17) committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Chamundinagar in R.T. Nagar police station limits on Monday .

Arrested

The Mahadevapura police have arrested Babu (26) of Kundalahalli Colony who had allegedly burnt alive his wife Devaki (22) on June 2 for not bringing more dowry.

The police have also arrested Babu's parents Narayanswamy (56) and Kanthamma (51).
