Powerless in the Capital

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Many areas of Lutyens' Delhi went without electricity for several hours on Tuesday because of a major cable fault. While the worst hit areas were around Hotel Taj Man Singh, power supply to Lodhi Colony, Rabindra Nagar, Khan Market, Pandara Road, Udyog Bhavan, Rafi Marg, UPSC House, Kota House and some offices on Parliament Street was also affected for a few hours.

"There was a fault in the feeder cable. Since it was one of the major sources of electricity to the NDMC areas, power supply to many areas was affected. We are trying to restore power supply to these places by late evening,'' said an NDMC official.

While the Presidential Estate and the Prime Minister's House have provisions for uninterrupted power supply, many NDMC areas got a taste of long hours of load-shedding on Tuesday.

"The problem has been detected near Humayun Road. But as all our cabling is underground, it will take some time to rectify. Meanwhile, we have diverted the excess power that the NDMC area has after office hours to these affected areas. Work will continue on the cable fault all night,'' said the official.
