Thiruvananthapuram : The conflict in the newly constituted Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) took an ugly turn on Tuesday with one of the members of the three-member body staging a sit-in at the TDB headquarters, alleging high-handedness on the part of Board president C.K. Guptan. P Narayanan, a CPI nominee on the board, sat in protest at the headquarters for about six hours after he found his room locked and nameplate removed when he turned up at the office on Tuesday morning. Protesting this action, Mr. Narayanan said this sort of a thing was unheard of in the history of the TDB, which administered major temples in South Kerala. Mr. Narayanan called off his protest after his party leaders intervened and assured him that the issue would be raised in the Left Democratic Front liaison committee meeting to be held on Wednesday. Denying the charge against him, Mr. Guptan, who is the CPI(M) nominee, said an unnecessary scene was created at the board headquarters as there was no problem which could not be settled through talks. The tug-of-war between the board president and the members started last week with the TDB president objecting to use of official vehicle by Mr. Narayanan and another member, C.K. Sumathikutty Amma, an RSP nominee. Justifying his stand, Mr. Guptan said as per TDB rules, the members were not supposed to use official vehicles for personal use. - PTI
