Hassan's plea to help stranded Indians

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson and former NoRKA Minister M.M. Hassan has urged the Indian Consulate in Jeddah to intervene on behalf of 1,300 Indians released under a public amnesty scheme but stranded in the Saudi Arabian city. In a statement here on Tuesday, Mr. Hassan said those who had benefited from the amnesty scheme were living in squalid conditions. He also sent a memorandum to the Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherji complaining that the Indian Consulate was lethargic in providing assistance to the Indians. — Special Correspondent
