Metropolitan killed as jeep, bus collide

KOTTAYAM: Metropolitan Augen Mar Dionysius, head of the Idukki diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, was killed when the jeep in which he was travelling collided with a private bus near Kodungoor, about 18 miles from here on the Kottayam-Kumily road. He was 52.

The Metropolitan was returning to Gethsaman Aramana at Chakkupallam, near Kumily (Idukki district), when the private bus coming from Mundakkayam to Kottayam rammed the jeep. The Metropolitan who was sitting in the front seat died on the spot, according to eyewitnesses. His body was taken out after the vehicle was ripped opened.
