Pollock is all smiles

Bangalore: Shaun Pollock was all smiles and one-liners at the post-match press conference. After scoring 130 and salvaging the African innings in a lost cause against Asia XI in the Afro Asia Cup one-dayer, Pollock said, "Yes the situation was bad, we were five down and with just 31 on the board but I knew that if the other batters and I stayed till the end, we could make a match of it. It was a matter of playing correct cricket, not losing wickets and about putting pressure on their quicks with some calculated shots."

Pollock, however, laughed off the queries related to a promotion up the order in the South African line-up after his maiden ODI ton. "We have good players at number five and six and that's always been the case. But yes I do feel a bit jealous of someone like Kallis who is more of a batter these days and bats up the order," Pollock said.

Meanwhile, Asian skipper Mahela Jayawardene praised Pollock's innings. "He played well, played patiently, did take the risks and it was a great knock but overall it was a good game and I think 300 plus was a good score though we could have got more.

"Our quicker bowlers bowled really well but we knew that they bat long and deep." — Principal Correspondent
