Single judge order challenged

BANGALORE: The issue of primary schools filing affidavits undertaking to teach in the medium of instruction in which they had been permitted to operate took a new turn on Wednesday when the Karnataka Unaided Schools Management Association (KUSMA) filed a writ appeal against a single judge order.

The single judge had, on May 29, 2007, directed KUSMA to ensure that all the 1,000 schools which it claims are its members, would have to file affidavits undertaking to teach in the medium of instruction in which they had been permitted to teach.

KUSMA claimed that the single judge had erred in asking the schools to file affidavits.

The appeal could not be heard on Wednesday and has been posted for Thursday.

In a related development, Justice Rammohan Reddy on Wednesday vacated an interim order granted earlier staying the notices of de-recognition in respect of four schools. The schools had challenged the language policy of 1994 and also assailed the notice of de-recognition. The case adjourned.
