LUCKNOW: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supporters clashed with the police at the Kishni police station in the Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh and set ablaze a PAC truck and three motorbikes on Wednesday. Seven persons, including four policemen were injured. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered. Station Officer of Kishni, P.L. Verma and his predecessor, Panna Lal Yadav, have been suspended. A case of violence and arson has been registered. No arrests have been made. The incident was a sequel to the police proceedings to attach the property of three absconding accused persons in a murder case. The accused are the sons of BSP chairperson of the Kishni Nagar Panchayat, Sarla Chauhan, and were charged with the murder of a Samajwadi Party worker, Jeetu Yadav, in Kishni on May 26. Ms. Chauhan's husband, Nirmal Chauhan, who was the fourth person named in the FIR was arrested by the police on June 4. Political rivalry was stated to be the cause of the murder. State Home Secretary Javeed Ahmed said the "public outrage" was due to the alleged "excesses" committed by the police during the attachment proceedings.
