STRINGENT MEASURES: Hubli-Dharwad Development Authority chairman Lingaraj Patil checking documents at an illegally developed layout in Dharwad on Wednesday.
DHARWAD: The Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HDUDA) has extended its drive against illegally developed layouts to Dharwad. Accompanied by senior officials of the civic body and Revenue department and police personnel, HDUDA chairman Lingara Patil visited three unauthorised layouts that had come up on Savadatti Road here, on Wednesday. He first visited a layout illegally developed on an expanse of 4 acres of land. Although the land had been converted to "Non Agricultural" (NA) land, it had not got the layout plan approved by the authority. Mr. Patil ordered removal of the marking stones in the layout. On knowing this, three of the land developers Imamsab Sangolli, Riyaz Havaldar and Pawar rushed to the spot and started arguing with the officials and the HDUDA chairman. They said that they had "NA" status for the land and the layout was legal. They threatened the labourers who were removing the marking stones. However, they were convinced when the chairman and the officials brought to their notice the conditions which they should have followed after getting the "NA" status. They were told to meet the other requirements in order make it an authorised layout. Mr. Patil next visited an adjoining layout developed on 8 acres of land. The land was neither converted nor was there a layout plan approved by HDUDA. The same was the case with another 4-acre layout adjoining it. The stones installed to mark the boundaries of the plots were removed. Mr. Patil told The Hindu that the purpose of the drive was to create awareness among the public. Mr. Patil said that illegal layouts had been developed on nearly 300 to 400 acres of land each in both Hubli and Dharwad, and action would be initiated against them.
