KURNOOL: Unruly scenes were witnessed at Municipal Council meeting here on Wednesday with CPI(M) and Congress members clashing over allotment of time in the House. Mayor S. Raghurami Reddy presided over the meeting. When CPI(M) corporator Laxmi Devi tried to raise the issues in her ward, Congress member Madhusudhan raised an objection saying that the CPI(M) members were taking more time of the House. The comment triggered trouble leading to Ms. Lakshmi Devi toppling the table. The House was split as the CPI(M) members came to her rescue. The Congress members took exception to the CPI(M) bringing protesters every time the council meeting was held. As the protesters raised slogans outside, the CPI(M) corporators stalled the proceedings in their support. The members contended that it would amount to belittling the House. At one stage heated arguments ensued between CPI(M) floor leader I. Pulla Reddy and Deputy Mayor Abdul Razak.
Teachers' transfers
The house also debated the issue of transferring some teachers to the corporation from Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishads. Opposition members said teachers from Kurnool district alone should be transferred to the corporation and not from other places. It would lead to large-scale irregularities in posting of teachers, the members said.
